COURTLAND—A Southampton County Circuit Court judge on Tuesday denied a Franklin man’s request to delay his jury trial for the alleged murder of his estranged wife.
Barrett Richardson of Portsmouth, who is Charles Steinert’s fourth attorney, told the judge he is ready for trial. Jury selection will begin Monday, March 25.
Steinert, 38, is accused of killing Tammy Jo Steinert, 37, on June 12, 2010, at her home at 200 Southampton Road, according to court records.
Steinert also is accused of shooting his wife’s uncle, Joseph Michael Wise of Courtland. He survived.
Steinert allegedly held his wife and two teenage girls hostage in the home before shooting his wife. He released the girls unharmed.
