Rallies combine for SA softball win over Fuqua School on Thursday

COURTLAND—A fifth and sixth-inning rally which combined for 10 runs led Southampton Academy to a 12-2 season opening win over Fuqua School on Thursday.

“Fuqua has a really good team,” said SA Coach Jeb Bradshaw.

“We were fortunate to get some timely hits and produce some runs.”

Lady Raider sophomore Brooke Mizelle pitched a four-hitter, allowing two runs while striking out 7 batters.

The game was 1-0 going into the fourth inning.

“We started off slow but the team never gave up and started clawing their way back,” Bradshaw said.

For the winners, senior Kate Wachsmann went 3-for-4 with a double and 4 RBI’s, junior Katelyn Newsome went 3-for-4 with 2 RBI’s and 2 stolen bases, Mizelle went 3-for-4 with a double and 4 RBI’s and junior Peyton Pittman went 3-for-4 with 2 RBI’s.

The Lady Raiders stole 9 bases on 9 attempts.

“The win was a total team effort with everyone producing offensively,” Bradshaw said.

SA will next host Kenston Forest at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday March 19, in Courtland.
