Hear Ye! Hear Ye! Chivalry is not yet dead in Courtland. Opening on Saturday, April 13, the Southampton Renaissance Faire returns to the Walter Cecil Rawls Library & Museum on Main Street. Guests are invited to travel far into the past once more, and experience a long forgotten age of mighty castles, dashing knights, eloquent playwrights and courtly love.

New this year, guests will be able to register to participate in Clan McPhatty’s Scottish Highland Games, with games for both adults and children. The games will consist of a caber toss, bag toss, fight or yield and archery. The faire will also be graced with the beautiful Celtic music of the band Celtique, which will be visiting from northern Virginia. Guests will be able to enjoy other activities as well, such as living history demonstrations, live-action sword and steel tournaments, shopping amongst period merchants, visiting the queen, and enjoying the many shows set to grace the stage.

There will also be a Medieval Merriment program available for children who are Girl Scouts and Cub Scouts to complete, with a chance to be knighted by the queen. The faire is a free community event and will run from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday, April 13, 2013 and from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. on Sunday, April 14, 2013.
