FHS girls’ tennis win home opener

FRANKLIN—The Franklin High School girls’ tennis team won their home opener with a 5-4 victory over Southampton High School Friday.

The match highlights for the Lady Broncos were singles wins by No.1 seed Kate Vogel, No.4 seed Andrea Jacome, and No.5 seed Kaitlyn Trotter, while Southampton took the other three singles sets leaving the match score tied at 3-3, going into doubles play.

In doubles play Franklin’s No.1 pair of Vogel and Trotter and the No.2 pair of Tyreccka Hawks and Rebecca Gray won their sets, while the No.3 pair of Cheyenne Banks and Sylvanna Bocook lost their set 8-6.

The two doubles victories gave Franklin two match points for the 5-4 win over the Lady Indians.

The Lady Broncos, 1-1 on the season, return to the courts at 4:30 p.m. against Greensville High School on Monday, March 25, while the Lady Indians will travel to Prince Edward at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday, April 10.
