Southampton softball team defeats conference foe 16-6

COURTLAND—The Southampton High School softball team overcame a slow start to defeat Greensville High School 16-6 in six innings Thursday.

Greensville jumped off to an early lead putting up four runs in the first inning.

The Lady Indians responded in the bottom of the second inning Meagan Duck led off with a double and scored on a single by Courtney Greene. Zoe Dunlow followed with a single of her own and then came a 3-run home run by TaLisha Jenkins over the left field fence, tying the game at four.

The Indians tacked on another run in the third inning on a sacrifice fly from Greene, giving the Indians the lead that they kept for the rest of the game. Building on that lead in the fourth, the Lady Indians put up four more runs, with a big hit from Madison Cabell in the form of a 2-run double.

The runs kept coming for the ladies in the fifth inning, using a pair of walks and a two-run double from Kaylee Edwards, to score three runs in the inning.

In the sixth inning SHS put the finishing touches on the game scoring four more runs, including a 2-run double to left center by Demone` Brickhouse, scoring the final two runs of the inning and setting the final score, Indians 16 Eagles 6.

The Lady Indians will be off until Tuesday, April 9 when they take on Southside opponent Park View at 5 p.m.
