FRANKLIN—In Sunday’s edition of The Tidewater News, it was reported the Franklin Virginia Employment Commission office had closed its doors.

The Virginia Employment Commission explained this week why the Franklin location was closed. Joyce Fogg, Communications Manager with VEC, said Monday that the Franklin office was never a full service office but rather a temporary satellite location.

Fogg said the Franklin office at the Workforce Development Center on the Paul D. Camp Community College campus was “opened to meet specific needs at that time” and was “never intended to be a full service location.”

She said the office was down to one employee after trade staff left. The trade staff had been added to assist when International Paper closed. The one VEC employee that was left has gone to the Suffolk office.

Fogg said the VEC is always looking to realign its resources to best serve its customers and that was the case here.
