Broncos tennis wins over Surry

FRANKLIN—Shaun Derama, Franklin High School boy’s tennis team number one player could not seal the fifth match win Tuesday, which would have given the Broncos a team win. The April 23 district match against the Surry Cougars was played at the Franklin High School tennis courts.
Derama won the first set 7 -5 against Myron Jefferson, but in both the second and third sets, in an over three hour match, Derama went down in both by losing in a seven point tie-breaker.
Due to the length of Derama’s match, all other matches in both singles and doubles had concluded and the match score was four overall with only the number one doubles match remaining to be played.
After a short break, the match was played and Derama and his doubles partner Scott Davis pulled of an 8-4 win playing an eight game pro set to take the match for the home team.
Single matches played with the best two out of three sets:
#1 – Shaun Derama (FHS) lost 5-7, 7-6, 7-6 to Myron Jefferson (SHS)
#2 – William Jackson (FHS) won 6-1, 6-1 over Justin Senechal (SHS)
#3 – Scott Davis (FHS) won 6-4, 6-0 over Jaquan Smith (SHS)
#4 – Collin Porter (FHS) won 6-0, 6-3 over Janathan Mayhue (SHS)
#5 Mason Grissett (SHS) won by default
#6 Jonathan Mayhue (SHS) won by default
In doubles the scores were in an eight game pro set:
#1 – Derama / Davis (FHS) won 8-4 over Jefferson / Justin Senechal (SHS)
#2 – Jackson / Porter (FHS) won 8-3 over Mason Grissett / Jeremy Senechal (SHS)
