IWA baseball wins in first round of playoffs

ISLE OF WIGHT—Logan Wright allowed only two hits and struck out eleven in a dominating pitching performance that led IWA to a quarterfinal victory over North Cross (Roanoke) in the state playoffs. Wright also went 3 for 3 at the plate, scoring three times and driving in two more as the Chargers moved on to the state semifinals with a 10-0 win. Other offensive leaders included Rainer Marfio, who went 3 for 4 with two runs and three RBI’s, and Matthew Herrmann and Casey Williams who each were 2 for 4 with a run scored.

The Chargers will next face Tidewater Academy, who defeated Kenston Forest in another quarterfinal game, at 1 p.m. Thursday in the semifinals of the Virginia Independent Schools Athletic Association state playoffs. The game will be played at Shepherd Stadium in Colonial Heights.
