After knocking out 21 hits against Windsor on Monday afternoon, the Lady Indian bats were pretty quiet in Park View Tuesday, totaling only nine in a 4-2 Southside District loss to Park View.

Cortney Greene and Megan Duck pitched for the Indians, giving up four runs, two of them earned along with 10 hits. “Yeah, we had three errors today and they hurt us early, giving them both of their first two runs,” said Coach Susan Melbye.

Unearned runs in the first two innings staked the Dragons to their early lead that they would build on and never loose. In the third inning a string of three hits stretched the Dragons lead to three. In the fourth inning the Lady Indians cut a chunk out of that lead, Senior Emily Nelson singled to start things and then scored on a deep double by Madison Cabell. Cabell then scored on a single by Duck, who was thrown out at second in an attempt to stretch it into a double.

The Dragons tacked on one more insurance run and finished the scoring for the game in the bottom of the fourth. A two out double plated a Dragon that had reached two batters earlier on a single that snuck through the infield.

“They only out hit us 10-9 and this is our first game in the last four that we’ve committed an error. But give it to Park View, they put the ball in play when they needed to and made some pretty slick pick ups in the field to get the win today,” Melbye said.

“We’ve had their number the past three years. I guess it was just time for them to have ours. But we’re a solid two seed heading into Regionals and we need to stay focused on that and our season goals. Our girls will bounce back, I have faith in them, they just need to believe in themselves and we can carry this season and keep rolling.”

The Indians will finish their regular season with back-to-back games against Brunswick. This Friday will be senior night in Courtland and Monday will be the regular season finale in Lawrenceville.
