SOUTHAMPTON—The Southampton High Indians Varsity Baseball team improved to 14-0 (total, 10-0 in district) on Tuesday, after defeating the Park View Dragons of South Hill.

Southampton’s Hunter Peck started his first game of the year and threw a strong five and one-third innings, striking out eight to pick up his fourth win of the season. Offensively, the Indians were able to start the scoring in the third inning when Josh Riddick led off with a double, moved to third on Dillon Hasty’s groundout to the third baseman, and scored on Hunter Peck’s groundout to shortstop.

Southampton quickly gained a two-run lead when Hayden Spalding homered for the second day in a row over the left-centerfield fence. The Dragons were able to score one run and chase Peck from the ballgame in the sixth. Josh Riddick came into the game in relief and was able to shut down the Park View rally.

The Indians were able to score nine runs in the top of the seventh on six hits and two walks given up by the Dragons pitching staff. The Dragons added two runs of their own in the bottom of the seventh to complete the scoring at 11-3. The Indians had 11 hits and two errors and the Dragons had five hits and two errors.

The undefeated Indians will host the Brunswick Bulldogs at 4:30 p.m. today, May 17. Southampton’s pre-game activities will include Senior Day.

Coach Wes Griffith encourages the public to come and support seniors Mason Wright, Cecil Lowe, Josh Riddick, Jake Pope, Dillon Hasty, Zach Vann and Tevin Mason.
