Juanita Lane Byrum

CARRSVILLE—Juanita Lane Byrum, 89, widow of Alvin Thomas Byrum, passed away May 21, 2013. Born in Chowan County, NC, she was a daughter of the late Herbert Herrell and Lillie Phthisic Lane and was predeceased by a brother, Herbert R. Lane. She was retired after 27 years from Isle of Wight County where she served as Assistant County Administrator, Zoning Administrator, Secretary to Planning Commission, Secretary to Board of Zoning Appeals, Secretary to Wetland Board, and Acting County Administrator for a time in 1987. She was believed to have been the first female Zoning Administrator in Virginia. Mrs. Byrum was a member of Beaver Dam Baptist Church.

Survivors include a daughter, Jo Ann B. Underwood and her husband, Fred of Franklin; a son, Donald A. Byrum and his wife, Linda, of Carrsville; four grandchildren, William J. “Billy” Harrison, Christopher Allen Stephenson, Donald Jeffrey Byrum, and Micki B. Mueksch; seven great-grandchildren, Mallorie Byrum, Elizabeth Harrison, Bailey Stephenson, Brady Stephenson, Abby Stephenson, Hope Mueksch, and Abby M. Mueksch.

A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m., Friday, May 24, 2013 at Wright Funeral Home with the Rev. James W. Browder, III officiating. Burial will follow in Beaver Dam Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 to 7:30 p.m. on Thursday at the funeral home and suggest memorials be made to the East Pavilion Discretionary Fund. www.wrightfuneralhome.org
