WINDSOR—The Dukes took home both the District trophy (7-1) and the Tournament trophy home Wednesday. The two-day tournament saw Appomattox Regional beat Franklin High School Tuesday night and WHS beat Surry.
In the championship game Wednesday against ARGS, the Dukes were down 0-1 at the half. In the second half, WHS kept firing shots and came up with three goals by Evan Binkley and one by Jeremiah Fly to win 4-1. The ARGS Dragons were the only Duke loss in district play this year, which ended in overtime.
Coach JD Turner said, “These guys have exceeded anything I could have asked this year. When this young group is on their game, they can really move the ball and control a match. ARGS is a great side, but our guys were determined that they weren’t done yet.”
The first game of regional play for the Dukes will be at home against Northampton at 6 p.m., Tuesday, May 28.
