WINDSOR—More than 2,000 people attended the annual Fourth of July celebration in Windsor Thursday, making it one of the largest crowds since the celebrations began more than 20 years ago.

The festivities were spread out from the Windsor Library on Duke Street across to the Windsor High School on Church Street, where dozens of events took place. From an antique automobile show to a children’s parade, activities kept visitors entertained from 5 p.m. until the magnificent fireworks display at dark.

At Robinson’s Park, the Island Boy Band played while the Windsor Ruritan Club, the Windsor Woman’s Club, the local Lion’s Club and Green Mountain Coffee prepared to feed more than 1,000 of the visitors hot dogs, pizza, cold drinks and dessert. The line of diners waiting to be served reached from the park down almost to A Street.

A highlight of the celebration was the presentation of a resolution of appreciation to Wendy Taylor, the widow of former Isle of Wight Sheriff Harold Taylor, for his loyal service to the county. Taylor was shot and paralyzed in the line of duty in 1963. The resolution from the Town of Windsor was presented to Mrs. Taylor by Windsor mayor, Carita Richardson.
