Ralph H. Flowers

SEDLEY-Ralph Henry Flowers, 70, devoted husband, father, and grandfather, passed away August 25, 2013 at Sentara Obici Hospital. Born in Alberta, VA, he was a son of the late Henry Lee and Evie Forest Flowers and was predeceased by two sisters, Lorraine F. Foster and Oneta F. Hancock. He was an Army veteran of the Vietnam War and retired after 33 years as a driver for Chemical Lehman and 12 ½ years for the Virginia Department of Corrections. He was a member of Courtland Baptist Church and VFW.
Survivors include his wife of 49 years, Nancy Hedgepeth “Polly” Flowers; daughter, Robin F. McClelland and husband, Kenny, of Franklin; two grandchildren, Richard Marlin McClelland and Emma Carol McClelland; two sisters, Louise Bryant of Norfolk and Joyce Rabil and husband, Fred, of Franklin; and one brother, James J. Flowers and wife, Paulette, of Drewryville.
The funeral service will be at 11 AM Thursday, August 29, at Courtland Baptist Church with the Rev. Tommy Speight and Pastor David Dillon officiating. Burial with military honors will follow at Southampton Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 6:30 to 8 PM Wednesday at Wright Funeral Home and suggest memorial donations be made to Courtland Baptist Church Building Fund or American Cancer Society. www.wrightfuneralhome.org
