Log truck accident closes part of 58

SUFFOLK—A multi-vehicle accident has closed a portion of Route 58 westbound near the Franklin Bypass, according to Diana L. Klink, director of media and community relations for Suffolk. The city’s police, fire and rescue crews are on the scene.

The call came into the emergency dispatch at approximately 10:20 a.m. The accident included an 18-wheeler log truck, a large box truck and a passenger van. The log truck is blocking all of the westbound roadway.

One person has been taken by Medic 7 to Southampton Memorial Hospital with non-life threatening injuries. Another person was taken by Medic 8 to Sentara Obici Hospital for non-life threatening injuries.

A detour is being set up to detour traffic to South Quay Road (Route 189).

The investigation is ongoing.
