ISLE OF WIGHT—The Isle of Wight County School Board at Thursday’s meeting gave Finance Director Christine Berta the OK to accept an $86,205 state grant, which would be used to further strengthen security in the county schools.

Taking the money requires a 25 percent match, or $21,551.25, not $25,000 as previously stated. Earlier information on the school’s website was incorrect.

The money would buy cameras and rear-door access points for Hardy, Westside and Windsor elementary schools, as well as Smithfield and Windsor high schools.

Berta will go before the Isle of Wight Board of Supervisors on Thursday, Sept. 19 and request the aforementioned, plus $7,000 in order to include Carrollton elementary and Smithfield middle schools. That money would come from the capital budget.

In other scheduled school business:

• The board also approved a P-Card pilot program in the high schools. This will be only for student activity funds. No impact on the budget is expected.

• The board has set Wednesday, Nov. 6 for joint meeting the supervisors, with the alternate being Thursday, Nov. 7.
