Several local former high school students of the Franklin vicinity were spotted and doing well up on the hill at Virginia State University during the homecoming game on Saturday, Oct. 19.
On the gridiron for the VSU Trojans as they battled with the Bulldogs of Bowie State University was former Southampton Indian Andre Rawls. Rawls, a junior majoring in business management, is a starting defensive back. He made his presence known throughout the game as he pressured the Bulldogs offensive team constantly in a game that went into triple overtime. The Trojans finally put it to Bulldogs as VSU quarterback Justin Thorpe connected on a 24 yard touchdown pass to Gene Holloman. The final score was 47 – 44.
Stepping high and proud with the famous Trojan Exposition Marching band was former Franklin High graduate Diamond Bowers. While at Franklin High School, Bowers was a member of the band and a member of the girl’s tennis team. At VSU, Diamond is a senior culinary arts major and a flag girl for the band.
