NEWPORT NEWS—Mrs. Mildred S. Fields of Birdella Drive, Newport News, VA, formerly of Ivor Road, Courtland, VA departed this life November 10, 2013, while a patient in James River Convalescent and Rehabilitation Center in Newport News, VA. On May 14, 1927, she was born in Southampton County to Luther and Lucy Williams Savage.
Mrs. Fields was a lifelong member of Saint Luke United Church of Christ where she served for more than 60 years on the Senior Choir. She was a graduate of Hayden High School, class of 1945.
Mrs. Fields was preceded in death by her parents, and husband, Walter M. Fields. Her memory will be cherished forever by two daughters, Barbara Dianne Savage of Philadelphia, PA, Alice Annette Fields of Newport News, VA; one son, Glenn Fields (Felita) of Hampton, VA; two brothers, Johnny Savage, Ernell Savage, both of NC; three grandchildren, Erica Cartledge (Jason), Courtney Smith (Chavis) and Sean Fields; four great grandchildren, Khenan, Khloe, Aubry and Cole, nieces, nephews, and many other relatives.
A homegoing celebration will be held on Friday, November 15, 2013 at 1:00 PM, Saint Luke United Church of Christ, 14166 Saint Luke’s Road, Sedley, VA, with Reverend J.J. Ferguson delivering the eulogy; Reverend Damion Batts is pastor.
The committal and benediction is in the Ricks Family Cemetery, Courtland, VA. A traditional service with dignity will be conducted by Wm. M. Johnson & Sons, Inc., 224 South Main Street, Franklin, VA. Please share your condolences with the family at www.wmjohnsonandsons.com.
