COURTLAND—The Saturday Franklin Broncos versus the Southampton Indians boys basketball matchup was a close one during the first half, as it ended with the Indians up 30-26.

But coach Sharone Bailey said the Indians came out in the second half against their rival going into the half court trap and putting more pressure on the ball.

“We pressured the ball, got some turnovers, and broke away in the third,” he said.

The Indians scored 25 in the third quarter, while allowing 16. In the fourth quarter, Franklin came out and put up 13, but the damage had been done as the Indians cruised to a 71-55 victory.

Shane Agunzo led the Indians with 19 points and 13 rebounds. LaSale Beale had 15 points, 4 assists and 4 steals.

On Wednesday, the Indians lost to the Surry County Cougars 78-44.

“Turnovers,” Bailey said. “We turned the ball over 39 times.”

In the first quarter, Surry came out and dropped 30 on the Southampton defense, while Southampton scored 14.

“They came out in the first quarter, scored 30 points, and never looked back,” Bailey said.

Southampton will play Sussex today at 7 p.m.
