Mattie P. Davis

SEDLEY-Mrs. Mattie P. Davis of Unity Road, Sedley, VA departed this life to claim her eternal reward January 12, 2014 in her daughter’s home, surrounded by her loving family. She was born May 3, 1919 to Charlie and Hester James Walker in Southampton Co., VA.
In 1980, she retired from H.P. Beale and Sons, Incorporated after more than 20 years of service. She was a member of Saint Luke U.C.C. and served until her health declined on the Senior Usherboard and the Sunday School.
In August 1942 she was joined in matrimony to John H. Pearson and many years later in 1972, she married Wilbert Davis. Mattie was the last of ten siblings all of whom preceded her in death. She was also predeceased by her parents, her husband, and daughter, Joyce Pearson Mason.
Mattie is survived by one daughter, Helen Pearson Whitney; two sons, Joseph Pearson (Nettie), John Pearson (Ella), all of Sedley, VA; fourteen grandchildren, twenty-two great grandchildren, four great great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and many other relatives.
A homegoing service will be held at 1:00 PM on Thursday, January 16, 2014, St. Luke U.C.C., Sedley, VA, with the pastor, Reverend Damion Batts, delivering the eulogy. The committal and benediction will be in Pleasant Plain Church Cemetery. A traditional service with dignity will be conducted by Wm. M. Johnson & Sons, Inc., 224 South Main Street, Franklin, VA.
