FRANKLIN—The Pink is Powerful Breast Cancer Support Group will have a kick-off brunch on Saturday, Feb. 22, from 10 a.m. to noon at the Regional Workforce Development Center.

Founder Audrey Lee said the brunch was for survivors and people going through the stages breast cancer to come together and find support through one another, and she added that there would be a doctor on hand, plus a cancer coordinator with Sentara Obici Hospital of Suffolk.

“From my experience with breast cancer, I can say that it takes a lot of love and support to get through even just the initial announcement that you have cancer,” she said. “I did not get to where I am now without assistance.”

Lee said the inspiration came through the large number of women who have approached her with breast cancer just since she was diagnosed in December 2012.

“I’ve found out in life, the key to getting through what you are going through is love,” she said. “I know going through my battle, that my husband and my friends came to my rescue.

“I hope this group will inspire others.”

The group will meet monthly, and Lee said she also wanted to do a few special events. For instance, Franklin native Earl Bynum Jr. will be in concern in the Hampton Roads region in the near future, with proceeds going back to cancer research.

“I hope we will be able to go and support that as survivors,” she said.

Reservations are due by Monday, Feb. 20.
