FRANKLIN—On Friday at 7 p.m., Fred’s Restaurant in Downtown Franklin will transform into the court of The King of Mardi Gras.

For a $150 cash prize, the king will ask you to find his stolen treasure box, which can win you $150.

“One of the highlights is the treasure hunt,” said DFA Executive Director Dan Howe. “The people participating will have to go to each court member, and each will have a one word clue of the two sentence description of how to find the treasure.

“But remember, there are more members of the court than there are good clues.”

Another highlight, Howe said, are the souvenir hurricane glasses that you can purchase on their own, or with a hurricane, which is a rum-based alcoholic beverage famous in New Orleans.

There will also be a New Orleans-style Cajun buffet, which will feature crayfish, jambalaya, shrimp gumbo, beignets and bread pudding. There will also be a salad and yeast rolls. The food and games are included in the ticket price. Tickets are $15 for individual, and $25 per couple.

Seating is limited, so folks are encouraged to get tickets in advance from Floor to Ceiling, Franklin Art and Frameworks, Olde Virginia Moulding and Millwork, Richwood Graphics, the Downtown Franklin Association office and the Franklin-Southampton Chamber of Commerce office.

People are encouraged to dress up in Mardi Gras-style, which includes sequins, glitter, feathers and masks. The colors are purple, green and gold.

“It’s a new event and there’s an opportunity for great fellowship, great food, and a chance to be a winner,” Howe said.
