FRANKLIN—Charles Roger Gayle Sr., 83, passed away on March 31, 2014.
A lifelong resident of Franklin, he was a son of the late Elezer Benjamin Gayle and Iona Joyner Gayle Gilliam.
He had retired from Union Camp Corporation as a supervisor in Sheet Finishing after 42 years of service, and was a former nine-year member of the National Guard.
Mr. Gayle was a member of Franklin Baptist Church, and he loved fishing, working in his yard and gardening.
Surviving are his wife, Margaret Johnson DeLoatch Gayle; daughter, Melinda G. Lee and her husband, Charles, of Franklin; two sons, Charles Roger “Chuck” Gayle Jr. and his wife, Ann, of Franklin; and Robert Benjamin “Ben” Gayle and his wife, Melanie, of Southern Pines, N.C.; brother, Wesley C. Gayle and his wife, Agnes, of Franklin; step-daughters, Denise D. Keane and her husband, Jim, of Raleigh, N.C., Amy D. Carr and her husband, Sammy, of Zuni, and Connie D. Holt and her husband, Vince, of Franklin; six grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
He was predeceased by his first wife, Joyce Smith Gayle, and two brothers, Talmadge and E.B. Gayle.
The funeral will take place at 2 p.m. Thursday, April 3, in Wright Funeral Home with the Rev. Brent Kimlick and the Rev. Sharon James officiating. Burial will follow in Poplar Spring Cemetery.
The family will receive friends Wednesday from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at the funeral home, and suggest, in lieu of flowers, memorials be made to Franklin Baptist Church.
