Southampton Sheriff’s Office recovers stolen property

BRANCHVILLE—On Monday, the Southampton County Sheriff’s Office executed a search warrant in the 28000 block of Little Texas Road in reference to recovering stolen property, said Maj. Gene Drewery, spokesman for the office.

Southampton detectives working with Franklin Police Department detectives developed information on property that Franklin Police recovered as the result of an arrest.

James William Thomas III of 28000 block of Little Texas Road has been connected to the following crimes:

Aug. 30, 2013 – J. T. Barham – burglary

Jan. 11, 2014 – 26000 Old Church Road – burglary

Feb. 5, 2014 – 15000 Pinopolis Road – larceny

Feb. 27, 2014 – 27000 Old Church Road – burglary

He has been charged with the following in relation to this investigation: three counts of burglary; three counts of grand larceny; two counts of credit card theft; and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

Thomas is the same person who was taken into custody on Sunday night during an attempted breaking and entering in downtown Franklin. He is in Western Tidewater Regional Jail and held without bond.

In addition to the above, property has been recovered from three more Southampton County burglaries and three burglary/larceny incidents in Northampton County in North Carolina.

Additional property was also recovered from crimes yet to be determined.
