COURTLAND—The Southampton Indians improved to 5-3 on the year with their win against the Windsor Dukes on Tuesday afternoon.

The game started off with Senior Hayden Spalding drawing a walk and stealing second base. Sophomore James Williams singled through the right side of the infield to plate Spalding.

With the Indians up 1-0, Senior Tanner Winters singled up the middle. The Dukes center fielder Cory Childress was able to throw out Williams trying to advance to third on the single.

The Indians were able to score two more runs as Junior Dylan Beale scored on an error by the Dukes second baseman, which allowed Junior Hunter Peck to reach safely. Peck advanced to second on a wild pitch and scored on senior Austin Pierce’s single to right field.

The Indians led 3-0 after the top of the first inning. Southampton scored one run a piece in the second, third, and fifth innings.

In the top of the second, Hayden Spalding reached safely after a line drive hit the pitcher and scooted around the infield. Spalding stole second and later scored off of Williams’ fly ball to right field. In the third, Peck led off with a bunt single down the third base line. Peck came around to score on Senior Brandon Knight’s fly ball to right field.

Peck also scored in the fifth when he singled to right field and later scored off of a Dukes throwing error to the third basemen.

Southampton was able to obtain 10 hits to the Dukes one. Tanner Winters made his second start on the mound and earned his first win of the season. He threw four hitless innings and struck out eight batters.
