COURTLAND—Behind an offensive explosion and a great day on the mound, the Southampton Academy Lady Raiders have advanced to the semi-finals to face Brunswick Academy today.
In Wednesday’s game, the Lady Raiders drew seven walks, and Brooke Mizelle was also hit by a pitch, which helped load the bases several times. When that happened, there was often a Raider there to clear the bases, as SA went on to win 18-0 against the Blessed Sacrament Huguenot Lady Knights.
“It was a good game,” said Head Coach Jeb Bradshaw. “It was a good hitting game. The girls were up to play, and they went out there and took care of business.”
Mason Pope and Allison Matthews led the Raiders in RBIs, each knocking in 4. Pope was 2-for-3 with two doubles and she also drew a walk. Matthews was 3-for-3 with two singles and a double.
Ashten Hinkle, who scored twice, was 2-for-3 with a double and a triple.
Mizelle, who had a 1.000 on base percentage including a walk, and two singles, scored all four times she was on base.
Morgan Pope was 2-for-2 with two RBIs.
“The girls did a good job manufacturing runs,” Bradshaw said. “They were also extremely patient at the plate. They waited for their pitch to come across.”
On the mound, Mizelle struck out 10.
“Brooke was hitting all of her locations,” Bradshaw said.
The coach said the next two teams are going to be very good.
“We have to practice harder,” he said. “Brunswick is a very good team, and everyone is going to be good from here, if we’re able to beat Brunswick on Friday.”
The Lady Raiders are 12-4 this year.
They were tied for third in conference play this season.
