SOUTHERLAND—On Friday, in a 7 p.m. match, the Southampton Academy Lady Raiders softball team fell to the Kenston Forest Kavaliers in walk-off fashion.

Having the top seed and the advantage of the last at bat worked to the advantage of the Kavaliers, as the Raiders allowed 4 runs in the bottom of the eighth to let Kenston Forest creep by with a 7-6 victory and the championship.

The Kavaliers started off the scoring in the bottom of the first, when they put up two runs. There was a scoring drought until the top of the fifth, when the Raiders put up one run.

In the top of the sixth, the Raiders put up 2 runs, but the Kavaliers quickly tied that up in the bottom of the inning.

In the seventh inning, neither team put up any points, so the game went into extra innings.

In the top of the eighth, the Raiders strung together 3 runs.

But it wasn’t enough, as the Kavaliers put up a 4-spot and got a knock-off run in to seal the victory.

The Raiders finished the season 16-6 overall, and 7-2 in league play.

In the game, Brooke Mizelle didn’t walk any batters she faced, but she gave up 9 hits, though due to errors, only 5 of the 7 runs were earned. She finished the season with 143 strikeouts in 127 innings and an ERA of 1.54.

Mizelle also led the team in batting over the season, hitting .657 on the season with 29 RBIs. Morgan Pope had the most homeruns on the team, with 2.
