SUFFOLK—Barbara DeJarnette Holland, born in Halifax County, passed away on June 17, 2014, at home surrounded by her family.

She was the daughter of the late Blanche G. and Richard P. DeJarnette. She was also predeceased in death by one sister, Beatrice D. Twine; and three brothers, Jennings B. DeJarnette, A.T. DeJarnette and Waverly E. DeJarnette.

She was a member of Bethlehem Christian Church, the Joyce Ann Harrell Sunday School Class and the Joyful Ringers Handbell Choir. She was a lifetime member of Beta Sigma Phi Sorority. She retired from Suffolk Social Services after over 20 years of service and was a volunteer at Autumn Care Nursing Home where she played the piano for the residents.

She is survived by her husband of 56 years, Paul “Cotton” Holland; daughters, K. Michele Holland and Lisa Holland Lowe (Mark); grandchildren, Dawn A. Joyner (Alan) and Andrew and Haley Lowe; great-grandchildren, Ian Day and Ainslee Joyner; sister, Mildred D. Piland; brother, Franklin D. DeJarnette (Anita); sisters-in-law, Catherine DeJarnette, Louise DeJarnette, Shirley Murray, Audrey Beck (Phil), Maureen Holland; brother-in-law, Ray Holland (Ditte); numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.

Visitation will take place on Thursday, June 19, from 7 to 8 p.m. in Parr Funeral Home and Crematory, 3515 Robs Drive, Suffolk, and other times at the residence.

The funeral will take place on Friday, June 20, at 11 a.m. in Bethlehem Christian Church, 1549 Holland Rd., Suffolk, with the Rev. Matt Winters and the Rev. Wayne Gardner officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
