WINDSOR—Isle of Wight County is celebrating Independence Day next week not just once, but twice.

Windsor High School will be the site of a fireworks celebration on Friday, July 4. However, an earlier one takes place Thursday, July 3, at Clontz Park in Smithfield.

Both shows begin at approximately 9:30 p.m., and the American Fireworks Company will be in charge.

Windsor begins its festivities at 5 p.m. Church Street will be closed from its intersection at Route 460 to the main entrance at Windsor beginning at 4:30 p.m. Handicapped parking will be available on the Duke Street parking lot, accessible from Court Street to A Street to Duke Street.

The following events will take place on Church and Duke streets:

The antique car show and awards takes place from 5 to 8 p.m.

Children’s inflatables and activities will be offered from 5 to 7:30 p.m.

A children’s patriotic parade, starting at the entrance to Windsor High School, begins at 6 p.m.

Island Boy will perform from 6 to 9:30 p.m.

Dinner will be at 7 p.m. Attendees are asked to bring a dessert to share.

Bring a chair or towel for your comfort.

The timing of the events may be moved up if inclement weather is approaching. No pets are allowed. For more information about the fireworks, contact Lauren Bailess at 357-5959.

NEWSOMS

The Newsoms Ruritan Club and the Town of Newsoms are having a 4th of July celebration on Friday, July 4. The event will kick off with a parade at 5 p.m. It will begin at the Newsoms Baptist Church, follow Main Street to General Thomas Highway, and you will get to see it again as it will come back down Main and disband at the church.

All entries are requested to show up no later than 4:30 p.m. Ruritans Brent Edwards and Randolph Cooke will line you up.

Following the parade the Shilo Band will begin their music under the trees at the Ruritan Building. Bring a lawn chair so that you can sit in the shade and watch them perform.

Lots of food will be on hand—hot dogs, corn on the cob, watermelon, drinks and dessert. Games for children will begin on the ball field and will be followed by an ole time ball game. Bring your glove.

Y’all come and enjoy the afternoon of fun. Everyone is invited. The Town of Newsoms will be “Hoppin” that day!

BOYKINS

On July 5 at the ballpark in Boykins, the town will get together to celebrate July 4th. At 11 a.m., the town will start off with a Pedal Parade.

Please bring your bikes decorated for parade. After the parade, the town will have festivities in the park until 3 p.m.
