FRANKLIN—Paul D. Camp Community College President Dr. Paul Wm. Conco said local country musician Colton James gave the area a good show.
James was playing a benefit show to help raise money for a scholarship for a student enrolling at the college. Some of the approximately $1,400 raised will also go toward sponsoring the college’s new Math Academy program in Franklin and staff development.
“I think it was just such a great community event,” Conco said. “We raised some money — not enough that we are going to need an armored car, but enough that it was profitable.
“We had three objectives, and we accomplished all three. Plus it was a great, fun evening for the community and the college as well.”
Vice President of Institutional Development Felicia Blow said that it also pulled a lot of interest in on social media, and got people talking about the college outside of the Western Tidewater region.
“One of the things Dr. Conco has said to me is that anything with Paul D. Camp Community College on it raises the profile,” she said. “With registration going on right now, interest in the college isn’t bad to have.”
Conco said the event had a positive student turnout.
“We had a lot of students there, so student engagement was good,” he said.
