Ruby W. Murphy

FRANKLIN—Ruby Winstead Murphy, 82, widow of William Clarence Murphy, passed away August 21, 2014. Born in Southampton County, she was a daughter of the late Norman Clyde and Elizabeth Robards Winstead.
Mrs. Murphy was predeceased by three sisters, Elizabeth Kearse, Nellie Murphy and Daphine Bradshaw and two brothers, Charles Winstead and Earl Winstead.
She was a retired registered nurse for the Commonwealth of Virginia at the Franklin Health Department for over 25 years and was a member of Hunterdale Christian Church.
Survivors include one daughter, Sally Murphy, of Emerald Isle, NC; one son, William Talmadge “Tal” Murphy and wife, Betty, of Franklin and two grandchildren, Eryn Eitel and Gregory Murphy.
The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, August 24, 2014 at Hunterdale Christian Church with the Rev. Don Rosie and the Rev. Randy Wright officiating. The burial will follow at Southampton Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 6 to 7:30 PM Saturday, August 23, 2014 at Wright Funeral Home and suggests memorials be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, South Eastern Virginia Chapter, 6350 Center Drive, Suite 102, Norfolk, VA 23502 or Hunterdale Christian Church, 741 Hunterdale Road, Franklin, VA 23851. The family would like to thank the doctors and the staffs at The Village at Woods Edge and East Pavilion and her special caregiver, Janice Carter, for their thoughtful care.
