COURTLAND—On Friday morning, Courtland Volunteer Fire and Rescue Department received a call at 11:20 a.m. that fire and smoke was showing from the shop area at Burgess Trucking Company on Governor Darden Road just outside of Courtland, said Courtland Chief Brian Futrell.
The fire was out before noon. Futrell said the cause is yet to be determined.
Courtland Fire was on the scene by 11:27 a.m. and was assisted shortly afterward by the Hunterdale, Sedley, Boykins, Capron and Newsoms volunteer fire departments. Franklin Fire and Rescue brought its ladder truck to help with overhaul. Courtland Rescue was also on scene for potential firefighter rehab.
The fire was out by 11:57 a.m., and some crews remained on scene until 3:18 p.m. working overhaul to make sure that the fire could not rekindle.
Futrell said the building suffered a lot of damage on the inside, but added that he would not speculate on whether it would still be usable in the future or not.
“I’d just like to thank all of the fire and rescue departments that come out and assisted us,” Futrell said.
