FRANKLIN
A crime will be on the menu soon at Mary’z Café in downtown Franklin.

The restaurant is hosting a Murder Mystery Dinner Theater on Friday, Oct. 24.

John Geary, who runs the place with his wife, Christina, said the event is the result of discussions about what more could be done for patrons.

“We had been kicking ideas around,” he said. “We’ve had requests to bring entertainment for the weekends, such as a piano player or folk music.

“The idea for a murder mystery kept coming up.”

Geary said he was familiar already with one presented in Virginia Beach, and has been told there’s another in Murfreesboro, North Carolina.

Maverick Productions will perform the play, but it’s not completely scripted. Dinner guests will have an opportunity to become involved.

“I’m impressed and excited about it,” Geary said. “The improvisational part was one of the things that kind of excited me about it.”

What’s not a mystery will be the menu. After a cocktail hour and seating from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m., the program begins at 7 p.m. Dinner will feature appetizers, salad, prime rib, shrimp, baked potato and dessert.

The cost will be $40 per person, and includes the show.

Seating is limited, so reservations should be made as soon as possible.

Mary’z Café is located at 401 N. Main St., Franklin. Call 516-6279 for details and reservations.
