The Franklin High School Broncos looked like the Broncos of the old days as they easily defeated the Greensville County High School Eagles on the road 50-12 in a TriRivers District match.

For the Broncos Corey Porter led the way with 4 total touchdowns; he also led the Broncos in rushing with 90 yards. Porter opened the scoring for the Broncos on the opening kickoff, returning it from the goal line to the end zone. The 2 point conversion was no go.

Javonte Baker was next to score for the Broncos with a 7 yard run. The two point conversion failed, leaving the Broncos with an early first quarter lead of 12-0.

Next on the scoreboard was Porter, after he broke free for a 65-yead touchdown run, the 2 point conversion failed once again leaving the Broncos with an 18-0 lead to close out the first quarter.

Entering the second quarter of play, Greensville Eagles quarterback Kijuan Harding completed a 58-yard touchdown pass to Jordan Peebles. The extra point kick was no good, putting the score at 18-6.

Porter continued to have a good night rushing with another 25-yard touchdown at 10:17 in the second quarter. The 2 point conversion was no good and the Broncos increased their lead 24-6.

On the next Eagles possession, with the ball in the red zone, Baker for the Broncos intercepted a pass on the Franklin 7-yard line.

Going back on offense Franklin’s Jack Sykes on a long run reached the Eagles 25-yard line and fumbled the ball. It was recovered by Ryan Allward who continued the run for a Franklin touchdown. Franklin quarterback Darrien Duck scored on the 2 point conversion, pushing the score to 32-6.

Greensville’s last touchdown of the game came with 8:20 remaining in the half on a 13 yard touchdown pass from Harding to Naquan Jordan, the two point conversion failed, leaving the score at 32-12.

The Broncos ended scoring for the first half and the game with Duck scoring on a 15-yard run; Baker scoring on a 30-yard run; and Duck completed a pass to Porter for a 60-yard touchdown pass.

The second half was played with a running clock, with fresh jerseys and no scoring.

The Broncos rushed for a total of 457 yards, and Darrien Duck had 80 passing yards. In tackles, Quayshawn Jefferson lead with 5 tackles, followed by Corey Porter and Stefone Person with 4 each.

In comments after the game, Coach Darren Parker said, “We executed in all four phases. We will go back the drawing board. We are happy with the win tonight, and as always, God is good.”

The Broncos will return home on Oct. 31 to play the Windsor Dukes.
