If trick or treating is on the agenda for Friday evening from 5 to 6 p.m., Downtown Franklin is a good spot to stop by, said DFA Executive Director Dan Howe. He said the children could even get all of their trick or treating done there.

“Come out and enjoy the festivities and Halloween in safe environment,” Howe said. “Lots of businesses will be open, there will be a lot of candy, and even a couple of churches will be doing ‘Trunk or Treat,’ where they will back their cars up in the parking lots and have candy to give out.”

Many businesses will be outside participating and handing out candy along Main Street and Second Avenue.

“Usually, we have a lot of kids come down — it’s pretty steady from 5 to 6 o’clock,” Howe said. “They fill up the bags, so the kids won’t go away empty-handed.”

Howe encourages the children to dress up, and he also added that many of the business owners would dress up, such as Fred’s Restaurant owner David Rabil, who does so every year. Howe said should the inspiration strike, he would as well.

As far as identifying participating businesses from a distance, Howe said to look out for orange and black ribbons.

Volunteers will be set up to help with traffic and the crosswalks to make the environment as safe as possible for trick or treaters. It is free, and runs from 5 to 6 p.m.
