Last year’s VHSL 3A state volleyball runner-up Warhill wasn’t going to let Southampton High School get close, as the senior-led Lady Lions put on a show in the 25-7, 25-2 and 25-8 victory.
“They are pretty good,” said Lady Indians Head Coach Amy Davis. “We struggled with receiving serves, and then their hitters are just really strong, and they can hit the ball straight down. We were just not able to dig them up.”
For Southampton, Morgan Bunn had 3 kills, Emma Drake had 2 kills and 1 dig, and Eve Robertson had 1 kill and 2 digs.
On the other side of the ball, Colby Norris had 9 kills and 4 blocks; Megan Harrigan and Alexandra Koon each had 9 aces; and Harrigan also had 16 assists. Jewel Walters had 7 digs.
For the Lady Indians, it means the end of the season, but Davis wasn’t upset.
“We lost a lot of seniors, so this was a rebuilding year,” she said. “But, overall, I think we had a successful season. We are going to try to get a strong Blackwater Volleyball team put together — not just for our school but the whole area to keep building up the volleyball program. Blackwater Volleyball will start in the offseason.”
Southampton finished the regular season 12-6, and lost in the opening round of the conference tournament. Warhill moves on to face New Kent today.
