PORTSMOUTH
In this past Friday’s league match, the host Portsmouth Christian Patriots basketball team scored a decisive 88-49 triumph over the Isle of Wight Academy Chargers in a VISAA Metropolitan Conference out-of-division match.

Portsmouth started things off strong in the first quarter pulling out to a 21-9 lead. That lead continued to increase as they won the second quarter 21-14 and the third quarter 34-12. Once the benches got a chance to play, IWA won the fourth quarter 14-12, but by then the damage had been done and the Chargers fell to 1-4 on the season, while the Patriots moved to 4-1.

Adam Webb led the Chargers with 18 points, while Bryce Casey had 14. Casey was 8-of-10 from the free throw line.

On Tuesday, the Chargers got some redemption and improved to 2-4 by topping visiting Denbigh Baptist Christian Minutemen by a final score of 74-63 in this VISAA Metropolitan Conference match.

Both teams showed up for the first quarter, with IWA coming out on top of it 37-25. Both teams were blanked in the second quarter, and the Chargers upped the lead by eight points in the the third quarter. Denbigh won the fourth quarter, but not by enough points to overcome what had been a 20-point lead.

Casey led the Chargers with 27 points, and Webb contributed 12.

IWA will be in action on Saturday against Wakefield School.
