Gridiron Indians achieve awards

COURTLAND
The Southampton High School Indians had some gains this season under second-year Head Coach Willie Gillus, which included making a playoff appearance in the first round of regional play. Their play on the field was also rewarded by TriRivers District, Conference 25 and Virginia High School League officials.
The lone All-Region 3A East honor went to running back Coby Williams.
For First Team Colonial Rivers Conference 25, honors on the offensive side of the ball went to: David Howell, offensive line; and Coby Williams, running back. Second team offensive all-conference nods were: Jeffery Allen, center; and Jamison Long, wide receiver.
On the defensive side of the ball, First Team Colonial Rivers Conference 25 honors went to: Russell Ballance, punter; and Delonte Boone, linebacker. Second team defensive all-conference nods were: Tyran Hunt, defensive line; Daniel Agunzo, defensive end; Troy Grant, defensive line; and Michael Le, defensive back.
Honorable mentions for all-conference were: Raquan Briggs, wide receiver and Shunya Burton, offensive line.
Several Indians also received TriRivers District honors. On the offensive side of the ball, those on the first team were: Russell Ballance, place kicker; and Coby Williams, running back. Second team honors were: David Howell, offensive line; Delonte Boone, running back; Jamison Long, wide receiver and all purpose.
Many on the defense also shined during TriRivers District Play. Those making the first team were: Russell Ballance, punter; and Tyran Hunt, defensive line. Second team defensive honors were: Delonte Boone, linebacker; Troy Grant, defensive line; and Michael Le, defensive back.
Honorable mentions for all-district were: Jeffery Allen, center; Jamison Long, kick returner, punt returner and defensive back; Shunya Burton, offensive line; Cedric Parham, offensive line.
“The players that were named worked very hard and they are deserving of their respective awards,” Gillus said.
