A winter weather advisory is in effect for Western Tidewater, including Franklin, Southampton County and Isle of Wight County. During the hours of 11 o’clock tonight until noon tomorrow, Jan. 27, an inch or less of snow is predicted to fall, according to the National Weather Service office in Wakefield.

Meteorologist Lyle Alexander said that as of 2:40 p.m., the snow was most likely to start coming down after 2 a.m. He said it will be a mix of rain and snow, where it will likely switch back and forth between rain, snow and mixed snow and rain.

If there is any accumulation, Alexander said, it would be a light dusting at best. While the advisory is in effect until noon, he said the snow will likely die down around 8 or 9 a.m.

With temperatures close to 32 degrees, Alexander said ice should not be too big of a problem.

“It will be very marginal,” he said. “We’re not expecting any problems, especially on the main roads. There might be a little ice on walkways or back roads.”

The advisory for snow could cause travel difficulties, as snow covers the roads and limits visibility.

Temperatures will be above freezing later on Tuesday, with highs expected around 39 degrees. It will be cloudy with a chance of a little bit of sunshine late in the afternoon.
