Students and faculty at the Southampton Public School District have joined in a nationwide scholastic celebration, as the school board approved a resolution recognizing February as “Career and Technical Education Month.”
This year’s theme, “Recognizing Classroom Innovators,” provides CTE programs across the country with an opportunity to educate students to be college- and career-ready, in hopes that they’ll land in high-wage, high-demand career fields.
Among the activities are tours of the Southampton Technical Career Center for fifth-grade students; job visitations at Solenis and the Franklin Business Incubator; college and career fairs at the high school gymnasium; SkillsUSA district leadership competitions; a business social, allowing students to meet with business and government representatives; and a contest where students explain their interpretation of this year’s theme.
Students can attend Paul D. Camp Community College as part of the school’s dual enrollment opportunity. In doing so, the students can choose to study one of several different programs, including: Agriculture Education, Biology, Building and Trades, Business and Information Technology, Cosmetology, Culinary Arts, Early Childhood Education, Family and Consumer Sciences, Health Sciences, Human Anatomy, Mathematics and Physiology and Technology Education.
