FRANKLIN
Partners Among Cats and Canines, a nonprofit animal shelter in Franklin, is conducting a shoe collection drive through the end of April to raise funds for homeless animals in their foster care program. But how will dirty, worn tennis shoes help the shelter?
Fund2Orgs, a social enterprise company geared toward helping nonprofit organizations with fundraising, will purchase the repurposed shoes from PACC. The donations will be sent to microenterprises in developing nations and, in turn, will reduce what goes into landfills across the country.
For Partners Among Cats and Canines, the money raised will keep the shelter in business. It also allows the shelter to offer free spaying and neutering to pets of Franklin and Southampton County residents.
“We are excited about our shoe drive,” said Becky Lowe, PACC treasurer. “We know that most people have extra shoes in their closets that they would like to donate to us and help those less fortunate become self-sufficient. It’s a win-win for everyone.”
Those looking to help the cause can donate their shoes at Island Tan, 188 Stewart Drive, in Franklin.
