Junior pitcher Corey Childress walked six on Tuesday, but it didn’t affect his ERA. The Windsor High School defense picked him with a couple double plays, as the Dukes went on to defeat the Sussex Central High School Tigers 9-0. Childress struck out seven batters.
For the Dukes offense, Hunter Williams led the way going 3 for 5 at the plate with a home run, a double and 3 RBIs. Drew Parsain had 2 RBIs on a single with the bases loaded in the first, and he picked up another on a sacrifice fly. Lance Sexton had 2 RBIs off of a pair of doubles. He was 2 for 2 at the plate, drawing a pair of walks and hitting a sacrifice fly.
Williams had a near flawless day on the mound on April 23 against the Surry Cougars. He didn’t give up a hit, but a pair of walks and errors plated Rodney Pierce. It didn’t mean much, though, as the Dukes picked up an easy 18-1 victory. Williams struck out seven and walked two.
Williams also helped himself at the plate. He was 2 for 4 with a three-run home run and a double that drove in another. Alec Kiser was 2 for 3 with 2 RBIs off of a single and a double. Griffin Holtz was 3 for 4 with three singles and he drove in a run. Trevor Kiser only had one hit, but it was a 2-RBI triple that got things going in the first. Parsain was 3 for 4 with an RBI.
The Dukes (6-3) will travel to Southampton to face off against the Indians (5-5) on Tuesday, May 5.
