FRANKLIN
The Franklin High School acting troupe will go outside of its comfort zone to present Mary Shelley’s “Frankenstein,” with a twist — director Jennifer Miguel wrote the script specifically for these students.

The play will open today at 7 p.m. It will also having showings on Saturday at 2 and 8 p.m. Tickets are $3. Franklin High School is located on Crescent Drive near the YMCA.

“I wanted to end our year with something no one would expect — I decided to write my own script, based on the original novel, but modernized,” Miguel said. “After working with these kids all year, I have seen how talented they are, and I wanted a show that would showcase all they can do — so I wrote this script for these students.”

Miguel said Gothic literature has always fascinated her. She produced “Dracula” for another school, and she knew that the next show she wanted to do was “Frankenstein.” She felt like the children were ready for it.

“They amaze me everyday,” she said. “We’ve been struggling a little with rehearsal time because all my leads are also involved in athletics, but it has made them work harder and pull together more than other shows — they want to be successful.”

Many of the children are new to the stage, and Miguel said this is the most anxious and excited she’s seen them.

“I know right now they’re really nervous about it, but I know it’s going to be a great show,” she said and added that people should come support the students.

“People should come see this play because it is a story that everyone thinks they know, but they really don’t,” she said. “This is not the green monster with the bolts in his neck and the stitches in his head. This is the monster that we all have inside all of us, the one that is looking for unconditional love.

“People should also come see this play as a reminder of how really wonderful our kids can be — and to realize how great Franklin City schools are — these students and this show are product of FCPS.

“Come see the show to ensure we can do more wonderful shows next year.”
