WINDSOR
Though the season ended in disappointment, as the Windsor High School Lady Dukes lost 5-0 to Nandua High School in the 2A Conference 33 semifinal, 10 came away with all-district honors.

The Lady Dukes had won big this past Tuesday against Arcadia High School, 13-1, in the conference quarterfinals, but only the teams who make it to the finals continue to the VHSL 2A East Regional Tournament. The season ended with the team falling just short of making the state tournament, but several were still able to hold their heads high.

The TriRivers District Player of the Year was Brittany Wade, the Dukes’ catcher. She also made the district’s first team, as did Kelsey Searcy, first base; Tori Holmes, outfield; Kelsey Shaffer, outfield; and pitcher E.J. Bankson. Second-team honors went to Peyton Gay, second base; and Sydney Carter, outfield. Alyssa Funai, short stop; and Morgan Whitley, third base, earned honorable mention status.

The team ended the season 14-6, and head coach Sean Wade said the Dukes are 41-17 over the past three years with this senior class. Shyanne Spivey, Shaffer, Searcy and Whitley are seniors, and the third baseman will play softball next year at Richard Bland College.

Conference awards have yet to be announced.
