Notice is hereby given pursuant to Section(s) 15.2-1427 and 15.2-2204 of the Code of Virginia, 1950, as amended that the Southampton County Board of Supervisors will hold public hearings on Monday, June 22, 2015 at 7:00 p.m., or as soon thereafter as may be heard, in the Board Room of the Southampton County Office Center at 26022 Administration Center Drive in Courtland, Virginia to consider the following two matters:

1. The 2015-2025 Southampton County Comprehensive Plan (May 2015 Draft). The Comprehensive Plan is an overview of the physical, social, economic and demographic factors that affect Southampton County. The document provides maps, figures, exhibits, and general policy statements that can be used to influence future land use decisions. The proposed plan is an update to the March 2007 Plan and makes revisions to various chapters, including those on Population, Housing, Economy, Transportation, Education, Community Facilities, Environment, Land Use & Growth Management, and Goals & Implementation.

2. An ordinance amending Sec. 10-48 of the Southampton County Code, as it relates to the maximum height of weeds, grass and unhealthy growths in areas zoned for residential, business, commercial or industrial use. The proposed ordinance was adopted as an emergency measure by the Board on April 27, 2015. By statute, emergency ordinances expire 60 days following adoption. This hearing is to consider making the revisions that were adopted on April 27 permanent.

Copies of items associated with these matters are on file and available for public inspection in the County Administrator’s office, 26022 Administration Center Drive, Courtland, Virginia during normal office hours of 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday.

Any person desiring to be heard on these matters should appear at the time and place referenced herein above and offer his or her comments to the Board of Supervisors.

The hearing is held at a public facility designed to be accessible to persons with disabilities. Any persons with questions on the accessibility of the facility or need for reasonable accommodations should contact Michael W. Johnson, Clerk, at (757) 653-3015.
