The Windsor High School soccer team put a cap on their 13-2 season recently, as nine Dukes were awarded all-district honors, and head coach Dana McKnight was named the TriRivers District Co-Coach of the Year.

After starting out 1-2, the Dukes went on to win 12 games in a row before losing in the Conference 33 2A semifinals to Bruton, 5-0.

“Overall, we had a great season with a focus on defense,” McKnight said. “We had nine clean sheets (no goals allowed) and only allowed five goals in the district all year.”

Austin Meier, Jarred Stowe and Quinten Winnegan were named to the district’s first-team for defense; Grant Morrill received first-team honors for midfield; Jacob Watson and Jacob Littlefield were first-team forwards. Curtis Guilford was named to the second-team for midfield, and Danny McManaway earned second-team honors as a goalkeeper. Jordan Todd received honorable mention for midfield.

Watson, who scored 25 goals this season and had seven hat tricks, and Meier will try out for Lynchburg College’s soccer team later this month.

The Dukes were the TriRivers District Co-Champions.

“We also had improved performance in the playoffs even though we lost. Our AA conference is extremely competitive,” McKnight said. “We are one of the smallest AA schools in the state and will be single A next year.”
