The Newsoms 16U softball team won the postseason tournament with a win over Wakefield on June 25. Newsoms also won the regular season title with a record of 10-1, and an overall record of 13-1 in the Southampton County Girls’ Softball League.
Newsoms went into the double-elimination tournament undefeated and Wakefield had one loss to Capron from June 15. Newsoms won the game 5-4 to win the title.
“It has been a great season, and I enjoyed every minute of it,” said Newsoms Coach Brent Edwards.
Edwards noted that for players Allie Holt, Aislinn Gadsby and Audra Nahrebecki, this was their last year eligible to play county softball.
“This is a great accomplishment for those girls as well as for Newsoms 16U team,” Edwards said. “I am very proud to be their coach.
“Thanks to them again and the rest of the team: Megan Vincent, Brittany Cobb, Sarah Williams, Sydney Carter, Stranisha Darden, Cameron Francis, Madeline Burgess Clarie Watson, Alexis Darden and Diamond Jones. Plus a big thanks to the coaching staff of Ronnie Vincent, Jim Williams and Cynthia Cobb.”
