Garland Bryant

COURTLAND — Roy Garland Bryant, 86, passed away on July 20, 2015 at his home.

Born in Halifax, North Carolina, he was a son of the late Marvin Roy and Ruth Hufton Bryant, and was predeceased by his wife, Louisa Francis Bryant, and a brother, Stanley Bryant.

Mr. Bryant worked in the hardware business for 26 years, and 23 years as a Southampton County Deputy Sheriff.

He was a member of Vincent’s Grove United Methodist Church.

Survivors include two sons, Donald L. Bryant of Courtland and Garland “Mac” Bryant (Patty) of Franklin; one sister, Maxine Davie of Virginia Beach; three brothers, Truman Bryant of Sedley, L.A. Bryant of Norfolk and Clayton Bryant of Courtland; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

The graveside funeral will be at 2 p.m. on Thursday, July 23, in Riverside Cemetery with the Rev. Andrew Book officiating.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, July 22, in Wright Funeral Home, Franklin.
