FRANKLIN — Rebecca Lassiter Copeland, 90, formerly of Woodland, North Carolina, died on Sunday, Aug. 23, 2015, in Southampton Memorial Hospital, Franklin.
Mrs. Copeland was born in the Potecasi community of Northampton County, North Carolina, on Sept. 14, 1924, and was a daughter of the late William Cornelius “Willie” Lassiter and Fannie Grant Lassiter.
A graduate of Meredith College, she was a retired elementary school teacher, having taught in both the Dunn and Conway school systems, and lastly at Northeast Academy in Lasker.
A faithful member of Woodland Baptist Church where she taught the children’s Sunday School Class for many years, she also enjoyed membership in the Woodland Woman’s Club.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Luther Clifton “L.C.” Copeland, and by her sister, Sarah Frances Timberlake.
Surviving are her daughter, Rebecca Copeland Scarboro and husband, Bill, of Franklin; two sons, Luther Clifton “Cliff” Copeland Jr. and wife, Anna, of Edenton, North Carolina, and William Grant Copeland and wife, Dawn, of Birmingham, Alabama; seven grandchildren, Bryan Hurdle and wife, Laura, Johnson Scarboro, Luke Copeland, Laurie Cavendish and husband, Brandon, Rebecca Copeland, Ben Scarboro and Grant Scarboro; and two great-grandchildren, Bryan Hurdle and Kathryn Parker Hurdle.
The graveside service will be on Wednesday at 11 a.m. in Woodland Cemetery by the Rev. David Brooks.
Friends may join the family in the fellowship hall of Woodland Baptist Church immediately following the service.
Miller Funeral Home & Crematory, 735 Virginia Road, Edenton, is handling arrangements.
