Officers from the Franklin Police Department arrested a Drewryville man on drug and weapons charges following a traffic stop on Saturday morning. Micah Lyle McDonald, 26, was pulled over by an officer who knew that the offender’s driver’s license was suspended.

“While speaking to McDonald, the officer observed his behavior to be very suspicious,” said Capt. Timothy Whitt, spokesman for the police department. “A narcotics K-9 was called to the scene and alerted [the officers] to the presence of drugs inside the vehicle.”

The search revealed quantities of cocaine and marijuana that are consistent with the distribution of drugs, Whitt added. Paraphernalia associated with drugs and a loaded Glock .45 caliber pistol, which had been reportedly stolen in Portsmouth, were also recovered.

McDonald was charged with possession with intent to distribute cocaine, possession with intent to distribute marijuana, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, possession of a stolen firearm and concealed weapons.

He was remanded to Western Tidewater Regional Jail without bond.
